Pacific Power Management, LLC (PPM) announces the installation of Monterey County’s largest solar power plant. The 1 Megawatt power plant is now generating solar power for the Gonzales Winery which is owned by Constellation Wines U.S. (CWUS), the world’s largest maker of wine by volume. PPM financed, owns, and operates the system and Constellation Wines U.S. buys the power generated from the system through a long-term contract known as a power purchase agreement (PPA).
The 1-megawatt solar power plant generates over 1,700,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year providing approximately half of the winery’s total energy requirements. The power plant is comprised of PPM’s own proprietary aluminum racking system, a total of 6,358 solar panels and two inverters. The system is monitored by SolarWatch™, PPM’s real time proprietary monitoring system. This project is designed to decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and is estimated to annually reduce the facility’s carbon footprint in an amount equivalent to 1.6 million pounds of CO2, 1,636 pounds of SO2, and 2,909 pounds of NO2.
PPM’s unique PPA allows qualified host customers the ability to buy power at a more predictable rate than from their utility company. PPM’s host customer’s can realize immediate savings and have the ability to eventually own the system with no upfront cost. PPM manages all of the design, engineering, financing, installation and monitoring.
PPM and CWUS will be holding a dedication ceremony for the Gonzales Winery solar power plant in the fall of 2009.
Installation Size: 1.0 MW
